Santa Cruz de Tenerife
From 1833, Santa Cruz de Tenerife became the capital of Tenerife as well as the capital of the province and therefore shares capital status with Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
Santa Cruz de Tenerife is known worldwide for its Carnival party, recognized as one of the best in the world, for its spectacularity, color and fun, in addition to its presence in the streets, where many people celebrate outdoors with a pleasant temperature (in the middle of winter) of the great festival of Carnival. A city that borders on San Cristobal de la Laguna in the northwest of Tenerife, and has a port located in a perfect geographical location for international connections between Europe, Africa and America, as well as regionally between islands, being the most important port next to the Muelle de la Luz and Las Palmas in Gran Canaria. From there, and just a few hours away by boat, you can travel between islands such as La Gomera or Gran Canaria.
Due to the importance of the capital of Tenerife, in addition to all the activities you can do in Santa Cruz and from there, it is a must to spend at least a couple of days in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, or even that it is this city from where you go to enjoy the places of Tenerife, as it is a city with a wide range of accommodation, restaurants and leisure.
We recommend you not to miss: The neuralgic center of Santa Cruz in the Plaza de España, the Adán Martín Auditorium and the San Juan Bautista Castle, the churches of San Francisco de Asis and Matriz de la Concepción, the García Sanabria Park or the Palmetum of Santa Cruz. For culture lovers, the MUNA (Museum of Nature and Archaeology) or the Guimerá Theatre, considered the oldest in the Canary Islands, are highly recommended.
