García Sanabria Park, the lungs of Santa Cruz de Tenerife

How can the biggest urban park of the Canary Islands not be one of the essential visits in your holidays in Tenerife? That's right, the García Sanabria Park, the lungs of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and built in 1926, is one of the main tourist attractions of the capital of Tenerife. So much so, that it has not gone unnoticed by the competent authorities as it has been declared an Asset of Cultural Interest in 2016.

The Flower Clock

It is one of the most outstanding places within the Park and a meeting place for many visitors and residents in Santa Cruz due to its location in the park, as it is in one of the entrances of the same This clock was made in Switzerland and has a very interesting history, as it was delivered by the Danish consul in 1958 to the island of Tenerife. It is worth mentioning that the look of the clock, with fresh flowers all year round, is simply brilliant.

Another of the most representative images of Santa Cruz de Tenerife within the García Sanabria Park. The name of the park is due to the precursor of the idea, which was successfully carried out in 1926 by the former mayor of the city, García Sanabria. Both works were by the same author, Francisco Borges Salas.

 

Unique vegetation

Throughout the park there is a very varied and complete vegetation in a tropical environment and species from many parts of the world. Since its construction, it has been converted into a botanical garden due to the characteristics and origin of the vegetation that flourishes there. Among them some as well known as the Canary Island palm, coconut tree, Indian laurel or orchids.
